The Dave Mathews Band was coming to the Gorge Amphitheatre for 3 nights
in August 2001... tickets sold out for all three nights in a matter of hours. Luckily I managed
to get some for us. The concert was on Sunday night, August 25th so we planned to make a
nice long weekend out of it. The Gorge Amphitheatre is located along the Columbia River
between Vantage and George, Washington approximately right in the center of the state.
Nearby is an area known as Frenchman's Coulee
where some of the best rock climbing in Washington State can be done. Anna and I have been here
several times in the past, but each time we see and do different things. Along the way out this
time we stopped at Snoqualmie pass to do some light hiking and take some pictures. We hope you
enjoy

Along I-90 just passed Vantage, heading towards George is Wild Horses National
Monument. From the highway these statues look amazing up on the bluff. |

| We did not take any climbing photos this time... check out the other trips to Vantage for
some other photos (we have lots). Here you can see Anna getting ready to take the
plunge into the cold Columbia River to cool off from the hot day. We had just finished
our morning rock climb, took some time too cool off, and then we were heading to the concert. |
