We spent the majority of our first two weeks in Cadiz -
a penninsula city in the Andalucian province of the same name. We had a nice little apartnment and took Spanish classes and hung out
on the beach. It is a small city with a population of about 150,000 people. It is only about 10km long and maybe 2km wide. It
is perhaps the oldest city in all of Europe, originally called Gadir by the Pheonicians in 1100b.c. The city is divided into
la ciudad antigua, the ancient city, and la ciudad nueva, the new city. Our apartment was in the new city, but
we spent most evenings out in the old city.
Here are some photos from various places around the city.

| On the beach there was this jungle gym made out of wide cord or rope. I happen to see a guy do a back flip off of it, so I figured I had to try. |

| Tiles (azulejos en espanole) are everywhere in Spain. Check out our pictures from Grenada and Sevilla for an idea of all the different tiles. Here beautiful tiles, next to stark cement of a rotting wall in the old city... there is always a lot of refurbishing going on. |
