Our 3 weeks in Spain started and ended with a night in Madrid. Madrid is really
a huge city and since we really only stayed there a little, we did not get a chance
to see much of it, but what we did see, we liked.

We learned quickly just how important ham is in the Spanish diet. There is
ham everywhere, pigs legs hang in all the bars, just waiting to be carved into
thin slices of pate negra

Here is Anna in front of the fountain at the center of Puerto del Sol.
If you want to find the bars, restaurants, shopping and similar fun
stuff in Madrid... head to Puerto del Sol and then get lost
in the street nearby.

Before getting on the train we wasted some time in the Madrid
train station which practically has a tropical forest inside it. Here we
are having a drink before getting on the train.

From Madrid we hopped a train (first class) to Sevilla and then eventually
to Cadiz. Here is Anna enjoying the spacious seats and great views.

Speaking of great views, here is a random castle in the Spanish country
side we past while zipping from Madrid to Sevilla in the AVE Supertrain.
(If the stupid camera would take pictures a little faster - it would not be
behind me :-)

When we returned to Madrid for our last night in Spain, it was a lousy
rainy day (really only our 3rd rainy day in the trip), but when the
rain cleared a huge rainbow appeared. (if you look closely you can
see a second rainbow above it). Anna captured this from our
hostel
window, Hostal Cruz Sol near the Plaza Mayor.
