During our first weekend in Spain we rented a car and drove around south-western region of Spain for 3 days.
It was a 3-day weekend due to the fact that Monday, October 8th was the day of the patron saint of Cadiz. We
had no school that day, no businesses would be open, and a large procession was to be held up and down the main
thoroughfare. We did not make it back to Cadiz in time to see the parade, but we had an awesome time
cruising los pueblos blancos de andalucia.
That Saturday, October 6th was our first day of rain. Our first stop, in the rain was Puerto Santa Maria,
a port town (obviously) about 30 km up the coast from Cadiz. Columbus apparently bought the Santa Maria (the boat)
here.

We had heard there was a great castillo to tour in Puerto Santa Maria. So we headed out through the rain to
find the castle... but when we got there we find out that we had to return after 1:30. Of course when we returned
at 1:45 the guard clarified his original statement and said that what he meant was the next tour was at 1:30. So
we really did not see much more than the door.

The square in-front of the castle had an awesome design in the ground... so I figured it might make a cool picture. What do you think?

While we looked for a place to take shelter from the rain, we happened upon this sign in an open doorway.
"Those without a good sense of humor are prohibited to enter...we are sure
you will like our exhibit and if not WE WON'T REFUND YOUR MONEY". So Anna demonstrated our sense of humor.
This was a museum to Jose Munez Seca - the father of the
farce - who was apparently born in Puerto Santa Maria.

After the museum we found just right place to wait out the storm... La Bodega de Siete Esquinas - a sherry bodega. |
